Canadians' interests sure can change in a year. Britney Spears, who came second in 2007's popular searches, was bumped down to seventh place by teen starlet Miley Cyrus. The NHL also lost its top spot, taking a knock from online game RuneScape for the most-searched topic of 2008.
The TSX made the top 10 for the first time. As Canadians watched their stocks, they also had their eyes on the TV. Searches for American Idol and the brawlers of the UFC and WWE battled it out for most-searched topics, as NASCAR revved up to number 8.
